On Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd February 2013 Enter CIC students embarked on another fantastic experience in a professional recording studio after MP Phil Wilson made us aware of a high profile national competition for bandsIMG 0579 and singers.

The competition celebrates the very best of up-and-coming unsigned British artists and the live music venues that support them. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness and importance of intellectual property rights, and live music. This theme is very close to our hearts as Enter CIC regularly commissions music and we have our own production house which creates music. As a result, music licensing plays an important part of our day to day activities.

We decided that this would be a great opportunity for our pupils, so we immediately arranged a time for the young people to go into the recording studio. The musicians and singers were eager to get started and soon found themselves writing and recording a brand new song for the IMG 0617competition.

Dane, Lauren, Jack, Andrew, Sean and James have enjoyed every minute of working with the music technicians (Gav and Paul) from Broadwater Recording Studios. As always Enter CIC works hard to provide unique professional experiences for our students. We know that Gav and Paul are industry experts and that our students will always get a first class experience when working in the studio. To accompany the competition entry, Sean Major, one of our media students has been filming the whole recording process and has created a video which will be featured with the song. View the video below.

The students have found themselves not only participating in activities in their area of expertise, but also stepping out of their comfort zone and trying new activities relating to music production.

For example, band members found themselves singing harmonies, singers and videographers found themselves writing lyrics and all of them flourished in their new found responsibilities. We think you will agree that it is a fantastic song. Have a listen below.

Well done to all the young people involved; Take a look at feedback from the students below.

“I find working at the studio really exciting! You have to be prepared to wait a long time. You need to be on the ball and ready to work hard to pick up harmonies and record them. I really enjoyed recording the song and beinIMG 0470g able to do it over and over to get it perfect. I’m really happy with the song and loved having the studio experience”
Dane (Vocals)

“This has been a great learning experience. The environment has been different and l have   developed many new skills that will help me in the future. I particularly enjoyed working as a team writing our own song and working with the recording team who were very supportive and friendly. It was great to hear something that I had contributed towards. I feel very lucky to have had an opportunity like this”
Lauren (Vocals)

“I enjoyed writing the lyrics, but it was tricky. The process was easier when we worked as a whole group. I loved the opportunity and I would love to do it again. I learnt a lot and developed new skills both musically and gained some great life skills. I can’t wait to hear the finalisIMG 0508ed song!”
Andrew (Musician, Drummer)

“I enjoyed the song writing process. It was fun coming up with ideas and getting them down and recorded. I enjoyed the process because it gave me the opportunity to use software and equipment which ordinarily I wouldn’t have been available to access or use. I enjoy being involved in Enter CIC because of the opportunities they provide such as recording studio experience and live performances”
James (Musician, Bass Guitar)

“I think that the hardest part of this process was adjusting the lyrics to fit the song. I enjoyed every moment in the studio. I hope to return in the future. Working with everyone was a pleasure and it was an amazing experience. I will take the experience from this studio experience and use

it when I go back into the studio for another project. It was nice seeing and working with Paul and Gav again. They are great to work with and did an amazing job”
Jack (Musician, Electric Guitar)

“Working in a recording studio was very different to the way I thought it would be. Songs can’t be produced in one go, there is a lot of stopping and starting as well as pre-rehearsals making it a drawn out process. I was interested to see the way that the music was edited first hand. Gav and Paul (technicians) have been very helpful and understanding in the filming process”
Sean (Videographer)
