celebrationofage2Our Upper School Students have been working hard over the past couple of weeks on our brand new project Celebration of Age. On a Thursday evening the young people workcelebrationofage1 with professionals to learn about the medium of radio and interview techniques. They are also conducting research activities to ascertain how life would have been during the 1940’s. The young people have been utilising their new skills by interviewing members of the community about their careers and interests. The interviews have been taking place at residential homes and private homes in Ferryhill. The young people have interviewed some fantastic characters with great stories and they are gaining a real insight into local history and the lives of people living in their community.

On a Tuesday evening our young people are learning popular dances such as The Waltz, Charleston, Lindy Hop and Jive. They are really enjoying the experience of learning different dance styles and techniques. All of the young people can’t wait to show the community what they have learnt.

zumbagoldWe are also providing care homes and community groups with free Zumba Gold sessions (pictured left) Zumba Gold is a fitness programme specially designed to meet the needs of the ageing population and it is a great way of helping to keep the body and mind active. We have had some great feedback from the sessions and as a result more sessions have been scheduled.

The students will use all the information they have been gathering to create a themed event at the end of the project for all the community to be involved in. The event will take place on Saturday 20th April 2013 and promises to take you on a magical whistle stop tour of days gone by.
