The Gruffalo theatre trip

thegruffalonewsOn the 5th April 2012 we took some children from our Young Performer classes to Darlington Civic Theatre to see the fantastic production of The Gruffalo.  This was a wonderful production by Tall Stories production company. Throughout the performance our children were enthralled. The production was truly magical and provided a wonderful musical adaptation of the award winning picture book by Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson.

It was good. I liked having my photo taken with the Gruffalo. It was funny when he jumped off the stage!

Throughout the performance the children clapped and gleefully joined in the audience participation sections. At the end of the performance we asked our children to remain seated whilst the theatre emptied. We then informed them that The Gruffalo had asked to meet them! The children were invited to move to the front of the auditorium and then asked to listen for the Gruffalo! It was clear for all to see that they were very excited, but perhaps a little nervous too! When all of the children were safely seated at the front of the auditorium the safety curtain lifted and there for all to see was the Gruffalo, the Mouse, and the Fox! The children’s faces lit up and it was a truly magical moment. This was a wonderful example of bringing theatre to life!
“I liked it when the Gruffalo jumped behind the Mouse – it was scary!”

“I liked all of the songs especially the G-G-Gruffalo song! I was inspired by the use of the story because it was very similar to the book!”

To the children’s delight they were individually asked onto the stage to meet the cast and to have a photograph taken with the characters from the show (see gallery below). The children couldn’t believe this and it was wonderful to see the cast interact with all of our children. This really brought the characters to life and enabled our children to revel in the magic of theatre.
The mouse was my favourite character – She was funny!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Company Manager Heather Rose, Josie Cerise (MOUSE), Owen Guerin (The Gruffalo), Timothy Richey (Predators). Thank you for facilitating this wonderful and memorable opportunity.
