The exhibition celebrates the work and contribution of Bill Farrell, an unsung hero of the Spennymoor Settlement, who inspired artists such as Norman Cornish, Sid Chaplin, Tom McGuinness and Herbert Dees, to name but a few.
Settle North is a new project from Enter CIC designed to bring to life the lives of those who have passed through the Spennymoor Settlement. From the painters Norman Cornish, Tom McGuinness and Herbert Dees to writers such as Sid Chaplin, the ‘dramatic exhibition’ draws on extensive research to highlight the trials and tribulations of the Settlement’s great characters and events.
A key focus is the work of William (Bill) Farrell, the Settlement’s first Warden, who was instrumental in inspiring everyone from the local community, some of whom would go on to become internationally acclaimed artists, despite going on to virtual obscurity himself.
Settle North is a celebration of the Spennymoor Settlement, its proud mining community and the artists who proved that anything is possible.
