On Tuesday 16th February 2013 and Friday 19th February 2013, Enter CIC Students Cameron Gough and James Priestley embarked on work experience with Matthew Bourne’s production of Sleeping Beauty currently playing at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle.
On Tuesday Cameron Gough and Simon Stewart from Enter CIC arrived at the theatre and were greeted by Chris Tonini, Technical Stage Manager. Chris Tonini is highly respected in the industry and we were delighted when he contacted our office to provide us with another fantastic production skills opportunity. As many of you will recall some of our students had the privilege of working alongside Chris and his crew last year on the wonderful production of Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker.
Upon arrival, Cameron and Simon embarked on a tour of the theatre and were introduced to the technical crew whom they would be assisting throughout the day. Their first task was to help unload the remainder of the flight cases and transport these to various locations around the theatre.
Cameron has always been interested in theatre costume and was delighted to be involved in the set up of the quick change area for the cast. He also worked on ensuring props were correctly placed for the dress rehearsal.
Simon who has recently returned from a placement working on Spamalot at The Playhouse Theatre (West End) had the opportunity to shadow Tanya Tonini who explained in great detail how the lighting desk was programmed for Sleeping Beauty.
Simon and Cameron watched the Dress rehearsal with Tanya and observed as the lights were adjusted ready for the first evening performance.
On Friday it was James Priestley’s turn to work in the theatre. James had a fantastic time and acquired production skill knowledge.
All of our students have plenty of opportunities to put their newly gained knowledge to work in our own in house production venue.
