22nd January 2013

On Tuesday 22nd January 2013 principal dancers Gavin Coward, Phillipa White and Adam from the renowned balletLORENT company visited Enter CIC. The performers conducted a wonderful workshop. Students from our Upper School participated in a workshop focusing on the Brothers Grimm tale of Rapunzel by the internationally acclaimed dance rapunzelworkshop1company balletLORENT.

Established in 1993 by Artistic Director Liv Lorent, balletLORENT is one of the UK’s most distinctive dance companies constantly touring the UK with an exciting range of work for audiences of all ages.

The new version of this classic fairytale has been written by Carol Ann Duffy and Co-produced by Northern Stage. The piece is a Sadler’s Wells and New Writing North commission, in association with Durham Book Festival. Other exciting collaborators include Composer, Murray Gold (Murray has been the musical director for the new series of Doctor Who for the BBC since 2005) and Costume Designer, Michele Clapton (BAFTA and Royal Television Society award winner and currently Costume Designer on Game of Thrones).

As always our young people were up for a challenge and put 100% into everything that was asked of them. The contemporary style of dance was new to some of our young people, but this didn’t phase any of them. Once again we were delighted by the commitment and energy of our young people.

We would like to thank balletLORENT and their principal dancers for providing such a great opportunity for the young people. We would also like to thank them for inviting us to their dress rehearsal for the upcoming production of Rapunzel at Northern Stage in Newcastle Upon Tyne in February. Take a look at a short video and some pictures from the workshop below.

They were very impressed by our students and gave us some great feedback. Please see the feedback below.

“The group were very focused, willing and ready to receive and share information. A very creative and talented young bunch. A keen and professional working attitude, with a generous spirit. Great team players and a well connected group”
Gavin Coward (Prince)

“A really lovely group and a pleasure to work with. All had a very open attitude and remained focused. We were able to throw some challenging tasks at them because of their mature approach. I was really impressed with how supportive they were of each other and the respect they had. Thank you”
Phillipa White (Rapunzel)

“Great determination and willingness. You all worked so well and responded to the creative tasks, creating interesting and enjoyable to watch duets. Keep up the hard work and continue to grow!”
Adam
