Some of our young people who opted to participate in art workshops on a Sunday morning (with our resident art teacher Sharon Hopwood) have created work for a groundbreaking collaborative national art project entitled Face Britain. Face Britain is the latest project created by Children & the Arts and has been designed to celebrate the nation’s children in the lead up to HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The project is part of the Olympic Cultural Festival and has the active support of HRH The Prince of Wales.
The project encouraged young people to create a self portrait in any style (3d, pencil drawing, painting, collage etc) and upload it to the Face Britain online gallery. In addition all of our young people who participated in these workshops will help to break the Guinness World record for ‘most artists working on the same art installation’. We are delighted to have been part of such a fantastic project.
Our students spent a couple of weeks with Sharon looking at themselves and discussing portraits and how to create a self image. The young people put the final touches to the portraits today and Sharon has uploaded them to the Face Britain website. To visit the website (to see the portraits), please click the link below.

In addition to this project many other young people have been working hard in art sessions to create props for our examination submission ‘Food Glorious Food’ from Oliver. They have just put the final touches to the papier-mâchécupcakes and are looking forward to painting the cakes all different colours. If only real cupcakes were the size of our props!
