We were delighted to be invited to take part in the Commonwealth Observance Service at Durham Cathedral yesterday. It was an occasion celebrating the special values, shared inheritance and insights of the Commonwealth connection and its 53 nations. In preparation for the event 53 primary schools took part in a range of lessons and workshops.
The event commenced with a procession of Commonwealth flags from Millennium Square and the Market Place to the Cathedral. The event was led by Mrs Snowdon the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham and the Bishop of Durham. The event was centred on young people and over 1200 young people attended the service at the Cathedral. The atmosphere was wonderful. We were also delighted that one of our own original compositions had been selected to feature in the event. Prior to the event 1200 young people had learnt the song and it was magical to hear all of them accompany our cast. A lovely occasion and one that will never be forgotten.
Well done to all of the organisations who took part in the event yesterday. A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Commonwealth alongside our global community of nations.
