On Thursday 4th July 2013 Enter CIC were delighted to perform at the prestigious County Durham Community Foundation’s Summer Drinks event. The event was organised by Barbara Gubbins (Chief Executive of County Durham Foundation) and her wonderful team. The event was hosted by the President of the Community Foundation, Sir Paul Nicholson, KCVO and his wife Lady Nicholson who is a trustee of the organisation. The event was attended by an array of dignitaries including Mrs Sue Snowden Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, the Chairman of County Durham, the Mayor of Darlington and Baroness Hilary Armstrong – to name but a few.

The event was an especially poignant one for Enter CIC because since our inception we have been very fortunate to receive funding from County Durham Community Foundation. This has enabled us to conduct a range of projects in the heart of our community, helping us to make a difference to so many people. Therefore, this event was an opportunity not only to showcase the wonderful talent of our young people, but also for Enter CIC to say thank you to the sponsors and the charity which have provided much-needed support.

Upon arrival at the event, we were greeted by County Durham Community Foundation staff members and escorted to the performance area. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful evening. After the welcome drinks Barbara Gubbins welcomed everyone to the event and introduced Enter CIC to the guests. At this point our young people took to the performance arena and entertained guests with extracts from The Wind Road Boys production. The performance culminated in a very rousing rendition of the finale number ‘The sirpauleventLight Shines On’ and at the end they received a wonderful response from the guests. As Mark I’Anson MBE (Chairman, County Durham Community Foundation) addressed the audience, he extended a heartfelt thanks to the young people, commenting on how their talent and work ethos clearly demonstrated the ways in which support from the Community Foundation’s donors can make such a difference.

It was clear to everyone that our young people thoroughly enjoyed the event and felt very honoured to perform for such a high-profile audience. After their performance they had the opportunity to mingle and chat with guests. On the journey home, the young people’s conversations were centred on the wonderful feedback they had received about their presentation.

We would like to extend sincere thanks to County Durham Community Foundation for inviting us to perform at their event and to their guests for such a fantastic reception. The support of the Foundation and its donor organisations are a critical and valuable mechanism to allow our young people to lay the foundations of the communities of tomorrow; a community that is built to nurture their aspirations and realise their dream.
