Graham Murray has done pretty much every job in the theatre from directing to putting dancers in their dresses. Right now he’s Deputy Technical Manager at The Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End, and Dramaturg for Company Maria Ghoumrassi. He has helped create the technical innovations behind West End theatre productions such as The Lion King, We Will Rock You, La Cage Aux Folles, Dreamboats and Petticoats, to name a few.
He has a long history of working in professional theatre in the north and has worked with Cleveland Theatre Company, Jack Drum, Welfare State International, Stockton International Riverside Festival and a host of companies from Europe and beyond. He has worked professionally all around the world, including South Africa, Australia, across the Far East, and taken his own productions to The Edinburgh Festival receiving awards and critical acclaim worldwide.
In 1992 Graham (with Paul Flynn) established the experimental and innovative SLAP Physical Theatre, which began the craze for large-scale, immersive, theatre-style performances at raves and superclubs alongside Paul Oakenfold and other major DJs, and paved the way for such performances in Ibiza and Magaluf, etc.
Graham is one of our most proactive patrons, providing incredible work placement opportunities to our students in professional, West End theatres. As you can see, Graham has a wide range of skills and experiences to share with our students and he embodies what we wish for our students, too; to be multi-disciplined and always advancing!
