24th April 2015

On 9th – 10th April 2015 Enter CIC staged Jesus Christ Superstar at Durham Cathedral.

What an event it was!

The journey to stage the musical started back in September 2014 when our creative team decided they would like to stage another performance at the world heritage site, Durham Cathedral.

It was decided that it would be wonderful if we could acquire the rights to perform the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice at the World Heritage site. As you can imagine we were delighted to hear the news that we had been granted the license as this would mean that this was only the second time in the United Kingdom that Jesus Christ Superstar had been staged in a cathedral and what a venue it proved to be!

We opened on the 9th April 2015 and the cast were phenomenal. They performed in front of an array of dignitaries including the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, the Mayor of Durham, the High Sheriff of Durham and London agents. At the end of the performance the whole audience immediately rose from their seats and gave the cast a lengthy standing ovation. The cast received the same response after finishing performing on the 10th April 2015 too.

Since the performance we have received a plethora of fantastic reviews and wonderful feedback from those who managed to acquire a ticket for the event. Enter CIC work hard to provide amazing and unique opportunities for our young people. I think its safe to say that performing Jesus Christ Superstar at Durham Cathedral will stay with everyone for a long time.

We like to think we can create some wonderful and lasting memories and we all agree that this experience will definitely remain with everyone for years to come. Please see below for some of the wonderful feedback we have received:

“The performance of Jesus Christ Superstar in such a magnificent setting will not be forgotten by the cast or audience. This was a real achievement and a passionate and powerful performance. In all, the rewarding result of hard work, commitment and inspirational leadership.” Mrs Sue Snowdon, Lord Lieutenant County Durham.

“Just wanted to say what a great night we had watching your performance at Durham Cathedral on Friday evening, it was brilliant.”

“What a fantastic evening my husband and I had at the cathedral on Thursday. I have seen Jesus Christ Superstar many times and this was absolutely brilliant. The children and young people were so involved and performed so well; the use of the space was very clever; what a triumph! A fantastic occasion!”

“Just want to say how much I throughly enjoyed the show last night. It was entertaining from start to finish. The ending was dramatic, I’m a lover of the big West End shows and have seen many and this would stand alongside them all for commitment, professionalism and entertainment.”
