On Monday 5th August, 2013 Enter CIC provided free music taster workshops at our venue on St Cuthbert’s Terrace Ferryhill. These taster sessions were designed for anyone who wanted to learn some of the theory and practical skills involved with Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Ukulele and Music Theory. Although the weather was poor the young people turned out in fantastic numbers and the Enter Centre reception was filled with excited chatter about the afternoon ahead.
The afternoon’s activities were split into four thirty minute sessions for the instruments and a one hour music theory lesson. The young people learned about the different parts of the instruments and some of the theory behind them before being shown how the instruments worked and the correct use of terminology. The young people then had the chance to show off their new
skills and they even came up with their own rhythms’! It was fantastic to see the group working together and encouraging each other as they learned about the instruments and techniques to play them.
The music theory session gave our students a real insight into how music is made and how it all comes together to form the finished musical piece. All participants were very enthusiastic to learn new techniques and we are sure they will use their new found skills and theory to progress on their journey with Enter and beyond.
Are you interested in learning a new instrument? Or do you want to learn the theory behind the music you love and listen to everyday? We have a number of sessions that run on a weekly basis so to book your place, please call 01740 655 437 or email admin@entercic.org. Why not try something new and be the best you can be. “Learning music is a great skill to have, and it was great to see children of all ages picking up instruments for the first time and really excelling. All of the students were able to play some chords and understand how each instrument worked in the short 30 minute sessions, which was fantastic to see! The students really rallied together and helped each other out, I am especially proud of the older students who really helped out some of the younger guys. There was some real musical talent on show, and I hope that more students have been inspired to take up an instrument, it is a great skill to have and yesterday proved that everybody is capable with a little bit of practice!”
