On Tuesday 1st October 2013 we conducted our first ‘Off the Page’ session. This programme has been funded by our local Area Action Partnership (4 Together Partnership). The programme includes small group teaching sessions (age range specific) and performance based literacy weekend activities for the whole family. These sessions are ideal for any young person who enjoys books and will benefit from a little extra help with reading.
The project will run for 12 weeks. During this time the children will participate in an array of exciting workshops aimed at improving literacy levels. The workshops will have different themes and be inspired by various topics.
Each month we will focus on a different children’s author. We know we have picked some exciting topics for our first month including stories by the best-selling children’s author Julia Donaldson (The Gruffalo, Stick Man, Highway Rat, Room On The Broom), the wonderful and humorous children’s book ‘Horrible Histories’ and the best-selling Michael Morpurgo book, ‘War Horse’.
Every fourth week there will be a weekend session where the current book will be brought to life by storytellers, artists and performers. Young people will receive free books which are relevant to their age range.
Enter CIC are industry experts at creating and providing bespoke workshops for young people. Using performing arts techniques we will build enthusiasm for reading, raise literacy levels and help to bring books to life.
We are passionate in our aim to address literacy levels in young people and wish to thank the 4 Together Area Action Partnership for supporting our initiative.
