We are delighted to have been awarded funding from Councillor David Farrys’ Neighbourhood Budget Fund for our brand new project called Speech and Communication. This project has been designed to raise literacy levels in 3 to 11 year olds by developing young peoples’ abilities to understand, communicate, and interpret the written word.
The 13 week programme will operate in local schools (Dean Bank Primary School and Ferryhill Station Primary School) and at our new venue (old Ferryhill Baptist Church) The programme will provide opportunities for young people to Improve standards in communication through the spoken word and Foster an appreciation of literature, poetry and drama.
At the end of the programme some of the young people will be entered for an exam which will be externally examined and each child will receive formal certification. We will also invite the young people to participate in a sharing of work for the local community at our venue.
We would like to extend our thanks to Councillor David Farry for providing financial support for this project. It will make a big difference to a large number of young people in our 4 Together Partnership Area. Keep coming back for updates on the project and photographs illustrating the exciting work being created.
