On Thursday 11th July 2013 Enter CIC once again had the honour of performing at a high profile business event. The event, organised by well known radio station Star Radio, was an awards evening to celebrate local heroes who have gone the extra mile to help others in their community. The event took place at the Xcel Centre in Newton Aycliffe.
Upon arrival we were greeted by event organisers and escorted to the performance area for a sound check. As the young people practiced their performance the room fell silent and staff were stopped in their tracks as they heard our young people sing. After the sound check we were taken to a holding room where our young people practiced some more as guests began to arrive.
After all the guests were seated Enter CIC were introduced and our young people took to the performance area. Silence spread throughout the whole audience as our young people began an amazing acapella version of ‘Lean On Me’ followed by ‘At The End Of The Day’ from Les Miserables. The audience were blown away by the power of delivery and continued to enjoy extracts from The Wind Road Boys finishing with ‘The Light Shines On’. As the young people left the performance area they were cheered and congratulated by audience members. Debbie Ridley, Star Radio Key Account Manager who has been following the work of Enter CIC closely took the time to come and see our young people after the performance to congratulate them.
We received this fantastic comment from Debbie Ridley after the event:
“Incredible, brilliant, wonderful, the young people are a massive credit to you and everyone concerned. Every single person is so talented. Not just my words but everyone in the room. You should all be so proud as I was of you all”
Debbie Ridley, Star Radio Key Account Manager
Enter CIC were nominated in three categories for the local heroes awards; ‘Community Project of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Young Person Of The Year’ (James Priestley from our Upper School) and ‘Partnership of the Year’. Enter CIC staff members and James were invited to sit with the audience and enjoy a meal as the presentation of the awards took place.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Star Radio for inviting us to perform at their event and we look forward to working with them again in the future. We would also like to thank our Enter students for showing, once again, that young people can be the inspiration for anyone and everyone in our communities. Take a look at some photographs from the evening below.
