2013

2013 was an amazing year. Enter completed 32 major projects and there was a great deal of community spirit for all. These projects don’t include the regular sessions we’d already established such as the Arts Enabled initiative, the Aspiration workshops, or the auditions we carried out at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts studios in London.

Off the Page.

March, 2013

A 12-week project to accelerate the word understanding, vocabulary use, and reading skills and to broaden the outlook of young readers (aged 4 – 12).

Part of this project saw us obtain hundreds of free books from a range of national book publishers for children to read with support.

Spennymoor Settlement - Performance

An invitation from the Mayor of Spennymoor was too good to refuse, so we got our great cast of performers and performed a number of our own songs in this most iconic of buildings, where many a professional performer, artist and designer has cut their teeth.

Beamish Museum – Performance

A wonderful opportunity to perform indoors and outdoors at the most iconic museum in England.

The Wind Road Boys – Gala Theatre, Durham.

June, 2013

Another large-scale production of our ever-popular, self-penned musical received more standing ovations at the Gala Theatre, Durham. A five-show run of full houses and rave reviews. Even an international celebrity (Matthew Lewis who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies came back stage to meet the cast and say how amazed he was at the performance.

The Mayor of Durham's Masquerade Ball

July, 2013

We were cordially invited to perform for guests at the Lord Mayor of County Durham’s annual dinner. The theme this year being a masked ball, so we put together a programme with costumes to fit perfectly.

Enter Youth Film Club

July, 2013 

Showing age-suitable movies for those who find it difficult or impossible to make it to a cinema. We showed fully-licensed films such as ‘The Great and Powerful Oz’, ‘The Lone Ranger’, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ and ‘Monsters University’.

Star Radio Local Heroes Awards

July, 2013

We were invited to perform at the 2013 Star Radio Local Heroes Awards ceremony. One of our young people, who also volunteered his time was nominated for an award.

Dean Bank Literary Institute Performance

August, 2013

We were invited to present a concert of our own music at The Dean Bank Literary Institute in Ferryhill. The audience were a group of elderly community members who hadn’t been able to see our work before due to mobility issues, so we took our show to them.

The Young Person’s Guide To The Lindisfarne Gospels.

September, 2013

Another self-penned, original musical production which celebrated the returning of The Lindisfarne Gospels to Durham. Performed to a full house at Durham Cathedral.

Our original music, featuring 150 children and performed to an audience of 600, was a unique celebration which was reviewed the next day by the Dean of Durham. Click here to read his review.

Healthy Lifestyle - Website Launch

October, 2013

Another innovative first by Enter CIC. We researched, designed and built a free website for all to access key information on nutrition, exercise, healthy ingredients and making your own healthy dishes.

Another world-first for Enter. A non-governmental website offering healthy eating and food preparation content free to the world and of great benefit to people who had become accustomed to fast food fixes.

Remembrance Parade.

Honoured to be part of this event again, celebrating and commemorating serving and past military personnel.

Charity Shoe Box Appeal Support.

December, 2013

The second of a host of regular, annual support events for the community. A local church, which runs a shoe box appeal all year, invites us to help them back the hundreds of boxes needed to be sent to children across the world who won’t, otherwise, get a Christmas present.

Santa’s Magical Experience.

December, 2013 

The first of our annual Santa’s Magical Experience – Santa’s Grotto. Children come with families to experience a performance, and an interactive tour of Santa’s Workshop and see Santa. Each child gets a present that fits their needs and Santa even speaks to them personally (as parents send on the child’s ‘good/naughty’ status as well as the wonderful things they may have done for the family and any hopes and dreams they have.

Gestamp Tallent Workplace Choir

December, 2013

Gestamp Tallent Workplace Choir was born out of Enter CIC workshops. This great choir sang traditional songs and carols as part of a mental wellbeing project. One of our trainers, Tom was on hand to take them through everything, give them confidence and present a programme of seasonal songs to colleagues.

Snow Clearance

January, 2013

We took it upon ourselves to clear the snow from in front of our office in case people slipped when entering. Then we thought, why stop there, so we went to al the local day care facilities and cleared their pathways, so that day trips, shopping excursions and even deliveries could still get through to the vulnerable.

Toddler Mornings

Speech and Drama Qualifications. Offering all young people in our community the chance to achieve qualifications in their chosen performance arts discipline.

This regular parent and toddler session worked with parents and grandparents to offer techniques of stimulating developing minds and featured, exercise, storytelling, confidence-building, healthy foods and caring for oneself and each other.

Putting' On The Blitz - A Celebration of Age

A wonderful performance opportunity to engage the elderly in our community. Young performers both served refreshments to and performed for the audience. A great intergenerational experience for all, as there was old time dancing as would have been common at the local dance hall.

Chilton Working Men's Club Performance

Chilton’s Working Men’s Club hosted our youth choir in a special performance commissioned by Councillor Christine Potts. A wonderful evening.

Rock the House – Closer.

June, 2013

Another professional recording outing for our students who wrote, played, sang and co-produced their own song for a national competition.

This fledgling supergroup, with our help, created and recorded their own song and entered it into the Rock The House national competition. They were highly placed and were originally nominated by Phil Wilson, MP.

The Wind Road Boys – Easington Miner’s Welfare Centre.

Our performers were invited to perform extracts from The Wind Road Boys to a proud mining community. One audience member said afterwards. “This is the most realistic mining production I’ve ever seen. Not just for the passion of the miners, but showing the conditions and the men and families who took death as a simple hazard of the job. It gave me a renewed respect for the damn hard work my father did for us day in day out.”

LaFarge Windows

September, 2013

We were given grant funding from LaFarge Tarmac from a donation under the Landfill Communities Fund to replace the windows in The Enter Centre.

Fundraising Support

Our young volunteers helped a local church raise funds by volunteering at a coffee morning and lunch. They took on the role of chef, servers, runners and meters and greeters. What a great bunch.

A wonderful and festive community production of traditional and modern carols as well as some dramatic scenes and even audience participation. A wonderful night was had by all and it put everyone in the mood for Christmas. The production went on tour to Ferryhill, Dean Bank and Etherley.

For many of the elderly in the community, the streets were no place to venture after dark. However, they would always turn out for an Enter production because they knew we would not only perform, but escort them afterwards to their cars, buses and, in some cases, their doorsteps.
